Haiti’s Blood Supply Faces Security Risks and Institutional Challenges

The availability of blood products, like many medical supplies and inputs, is dictated by the pace of insecurity. The National Blood Transfusion Center (CNTS), often overwhelmed by circumstances, struggles to navigate between institutional challenges and the need to adapt to an increasingly hostile security environment.

At the end of December 2024, some employees of the National Blood Transfusion Center went on strike. Families of patients in urgent need of blood bore the brunt of this situation when they arrived at the center only to find they could not obtain the lifesaving product.
