Carnival 2025: Fort-Liberté to Host the Main Festivities

Haiti’s national carnival is making its comeback in 2025. The announcement was made on January 18, 2025, by the Minister of Culture and Communication, Patrick Delatour, in an interview with Le Nouvelliste. This year, the event will take place in Fort-Liberté from March 2 to 4. Promoter Akinson Bélizaire, also known as Zagalo, shared details on January 17 during the Lekòl Lage program on Magik9, revealing the theme, "Haïti Debout" (Haiti Standing).

Once regarded as one of the country's greatest cultural events, the Haitian national carnival has endured a challenging period, marked by political crises, rising insecurity, and the decline of festivities in Port-au-Prince. It’s worth noting that the last national carnival was held in 2021 in Port-de-Paix under President Jovenel Moïse. In recent years, under Prime Minister Ariel Henry, only limited carnival celebrations were held in provincial cities and Port-au-Prince in 2022, 2023, and 2024.
