UN Reports Over 5,600 Deaths from Gang Violence in Haiti in 2024

With over 80% of the capital's territory under gang control, armed groups escalated their attacks on the population in 2024, causing a growing number of casualties. At least 5,601 people were killed in Haiti during 2024 by gangs, according to the latest figures released by the United Nations (UN) on January 7, 2025.

The UN noted that this figure represents an increase of over 1,000 people compared to the total number of fatalities recorded in 2023.

The organization also reported that during 2024, a total of 2,212 people were injured and 1,494 were kidnapped by gangs.
