Bernard Mevs Hospital Vandalized and Torched: Medical Sector in Crisis

A large portion of Bernard Mevs Hospital was vandalized and set on fire between December 16 and 17, 2024, by armed gangs operating on the road to the airport. Several public figures, associations, and organizations in the medical sector have expressed their outrage over these attacks, which seem to once again target healthcare institutions.

“This is a tremendous shock,” declared Dr. Gérard Abel, President of the Association of Private Hospitals of Haiti, speaking on behalf of private hospital owners in Haiti.

“What shocks me the most is that long before the act took place, there were rumors, warnings, and threats. It seems to me that nothing was done, or what was done in terms of security was insufficient,” lamented Dr. Abel.
