The Grueling Journey from Cap-Haïtien to Port-au-Prince

After a week of continuous downpours in the city of Cap-Haïtien, the road infrastructure in the city and the routes connecting this northern metropolis to the department of the West have been severely tested. This situation greatly inconvenienced travelers on the road to Haiti’s capital during the past weekend. One passenger, Arold, shared with Le Nouvelliste the details of his nightmare journey on this route.

Originally from Les Cayes and having lived in Port-au-Prince for more than three decades, Arold explained that he had traveled to his hometown to attend a relative’s funeral. After the burial on November 9, he planned to return to Port-au-Prince on November 11. Unfortunately, a violent surge in gang activity in Port-au-Prince did not spare international air carriers, with some being hit by gunfire. This led to the closure of Port-au-Prince’s international airport on that very day.
