Aftermath of Pont Sondé: Saint-Nicolas Hospital in Saint-Marc Counts 23 Injuries and 5 Deaths

Around four days after the massacre in Pont Sondé, in the Lower Artibonite, which took place on Thursday, October 3, 2024, Saint-Nicolas Hospital in Saint-Marc continues to care for patients, balancing constraints with the dedication of its staff. Since the massacre that left about fifty dead and thirty wounded in Pont Sondé, Saint-Nicolas Hospital has been overwhelmed, pushing beyond the limits of its community hospital status.

"We received 23 injured and five people who were already deceased upon arrival," stated Dr. Frantz Alexis, Medical Director of Saint-Nicolas Hospital, in an interview with Le Nouvelliste on Monday, October 7, 2024. Twenty-one of the injured arrived on the first day, October 3, and two more on October 4. According to Dr. Alexis, three surgeons, two orthopedists, and family medicine residents, among others, have been on call continuously to respond to the influx of patients.
