Plans Underway to Restore the Dessalines Statue in Cap-Haitian

Under the auspices of the Groupe de Réflexion et d'Action pour le Patrimoine Haïtien (GRAPH), a collective of engaged citizens has launched a project to restore the statue of Jean-Jacques Dessalines, the founder of the nation, which was damaged three years ago by a person suffering from mental illness at Notre-Dame Square.

Under the auspices of the Groupe de Réflexion et d'Action pour le Patrimoine Haïtien (GRAPH), a collective of engaged citizens has launched a project to restore the statue of Jean-Jacques Dessalines, the founder of the nation, which was damaged three years ago by a person suffering from mental illness at Notre-Dame Square.

The project, themed "Mete stati Dessalines kanpe" (Raise Dessalines' statue), was unveiled during a press conference held on Wednesday, September 11, 2024, in Cap-Haitiann.
