“The Pétion-Ville municipality informs the general public and private waste collection companies that the Laboule 12 illegal dump site is permanently closed by decision of the municipal council,” reads the statement signed by Kesner Normil, Mayor of Pétion-Ville.
According to the statement, this decision follows a local petition and “aims to protect the health of area residents and preserve the region's unique groundwater aquifer.”
