The Case is Politically Motivated and Legally Unfounded," Claims Advisor Smith Augustin Following Anti-Corruption Unit Hearing

President's advisor Smith Augustin, in an interview with Le Nouvelliste following his hearing in the corruption scandal, stated that "the case is political and lacks legal foundation." He described the scandal as a politically manufactured issue intended to harm the reputations of political opponents. "This is a manufactured political issue. The case is politically motivated and legally unfounded. It is an empty case used deliberately in the struggle for power to tarnish the reputations of political adversaries like us," he said in response to a question about his upcoming presidency of the Transition Presidential Council (TPC) in October.

Le Nouvelliste: Did you answer the ULCC's questions today?

Smith Augustin: Yes, I voluntarily appeared at the ULCC office on Tuesday, August 27, 2024, alone and without a lawyer. I was warmly received by the General Director and then questioned by an investigative committee of two members assisted by a clerk. The questioning lasted from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. and covered my professional background, personal assets, the functioning of the TPC, and the specific corruption allegations.
