WFP Signs Pact to Create Cassava Market Infrastructure

Around 3,000 small-scale producers, ten cassava processing centers, and two agricultural enterprises will benefit from an agreement between the World Food Programme (WFP) and the Feed the Future project, Resilience and Advancement of the Agricultural Sector in Haiti (RASAH), with the approval of the Central Departmental Agricultural Directorate (DDAC).

The agreement aims to strengthen the production, processing, marketing, and inclusive and resilient consumption of cassava in the Central Department. Special emphasis will be placed on integrating sweet cassava and its derivatives into school feeding programs.

During the 2023-2024 school year, the WFP assisted approximately 28,000 schoolchildren in the Central Department with nutritious meals sourced locally through associations comprising over 3,900 producers in the region.
