A fire of unknown origin broke out in part of the municipal market in the city of Independence during the night of Monday, June 3 to Tuesday, June 4, 2024. Among the most affected by the blaze were vendors of food supplies and fabrics.
At 8 a.m. on Tuesday morning, the fire was still consuming a fabric warehouse. Using a water truck, local residents tried to salvage some of the goods inside. Nearby, vendors who had lost their merchandise in the fire, their hands on their heads, could not contain their tears.
