The United States announced on Wednesday that it would reimpose sanctions on Venezuela's oil and gas sectors, stating that President Nicolas Maduro's government was continuing its policy of suppressing the opposition.

The administration of President Joe Biden is thus reversing the easing of sanctions announced following an electoral agreement reached in October 2023 between representatives of President Maduro and those of the opposition, aimed at holding a free and fair presidential election in July.
