Progressive Reopening of Schools in Les Cayes

After four weeks of total dysfunction of school activities in the city of Les Cayes, due to protests against the current government, school doors are gradually reopening this week. While very few students were noticed on Monday, Tuesday morning saw a large number of schoolchildren in the streets. There has been a constant presence of the Haitian National Police agents in the South, especially regarding traffic and security around certain school premises.

For the past two weeks, all activities have been functioning in the country's third-largest city, except for school activities. This observation has angered many parents who were forced to keep their children at home. Out of the 190 school days scheduled for the 2023-2024 academic year, 20 days have already been lost in the school district of Les Cayes, lamented Sylvain Jean Désir, the South Departmental Director of National Education.
