Unraveling the Status of the Southern International Port: Insights from the Director-General of the National Port Authority

Although it has been finalized some three years ago, the Port International du Sud, located in the bay of Saint-Louis du Sud, is still awaiting its operating permit from the relevant authorities. Unlike the officials of this private port, the authorities continue to believe that this port facility does not yet meet all the required conditions to deserve an operating permit. To shed light on this situation, Le Nouvelliste interviewed leaders of the National Port Authority (APN), including Director-General Jocelin Villier, who explained the status of this Southern port facility.

"There are three essential elements to formally operate a port: the port, customs, and the police. The APN must ensure not only that there are available and adequate port facilities for the embarkation and disembarkation of boats but also spaces to accommodate authorities within the port. In other words, the port facility must have, among other things, space for customs and space for the police," reported the Director of the APN, Jocelin Villier.
