Challenges to Haiti's Economic Growth in 2024: Insecurity and Political Instability

ProEco Haiti, a consulting firm, unveiled the findings of its "Economic and Financial Barometer 2024 (BEF 2024)" opinion survey on Monday, January 8, at the Le Plaza hotel. A sample of 336 professionals working directly or indirectly in the fields of economics, finance, and public policies responded to various questions regarding the prospects of the Haitian economy. This year, over 82.6% believe that insecurity and political uncertainty will be the primary obstacles to Haiti's economic growth in 2024.

While the government hopes for a 0.7% growth in 2024, professionals within the Haitian economy remain pessimistic. Indeed, 78.7% of them believe that the country's economy will not improve this year. According to the survey results, the main reasons cited for this pessimism are the longstanding issues of insecurity and economic uncertainty in the country. 82.6% of these professionals argue that Haiti's economy will not see better days under such sociopolitical conditions.
