September Records 60,000+ Haitian Repatriations, Turnbacks, and Spontaneous Returns from the Dominican Republic

In September 2023, Dominican authorities repatriated over 26,000 Haitians, while more than 34,000 others spontaneously returned to Haiti, according to a tally by the Support Group for Repatriates and Refugees (GARR).

In an interview with Radio Magik 9, GARR's Communications Officer, Sam Guillaume, provided up-to-date figures on the repatriation operations from the Dominican Republic and the number of Haitians who chose to return voluntarily.

According to the GARR count for September 2023, Dominican authorities turned away a total of 6,378 Haitians and repatriated 26,369 others, including 1,454 pregnant women and 1,025 unaccompanied children.
