As announced by members of the community on Sunday, October 8, 2023, the Haitian border at Ouanaminthe was closed on Monday, October 9, 2023, as Le Nouvelliste observed.
This decision was taken by members of organizations in the city of Ouanaminthe in response to the Dominican government's announcement, during a visit by President Luis Rodolfo Abinader Corona to the "Vigia" river, that they planned to reopen a portion of the Haitian-Dominican northern border for the resumption of trade.
