Civil Protection Reports Almost 200,000 Displaced Due to Insecurity

Armed gangs are escalating attacks against members of the population in the metropolitan area of Port-au-Prince as well as in several provincial cities. This situation has already forced nearly 175,000 to 200,000 people to flee their homes in less than two years, according to an estimate from the Civil Protection Directorate (CPD).

With each of their brutal attacks, armed gangs commit acts of violence, indiscriminately killing and looting. This unprecedented violence regularly compels residents of affected and nearby areas to leave their homes in search of refuge in public spaces, schools, or sometimes makeshift camps.
