I would like to thank the UNESCO/Haiti office for inviting me to join this panel to discuss press freedom, journalist safety, and the role of the press in the current situation.

I also thank the Ambassador and Permanent Delegate of the Republic of Haiti to UNESCO, Ms. Dominique Dupuy, her team, journalists' associations, media owners, and civil society organizations that supported my candidacy for the Guillermo Cano World Press Freedom Prize.
