Most Bodies of Haitians Who Died in the Dominican Republic Remain Unclaimed

Nine out of thirteen Haitian migrants who died on August 7, 2023, in a road accident while clandestinely entering the Dominican Republic have not been claimed by their families, reportedly due to fear of authorities, according to an NGO.

Nine out of thirteen Haitian migrants who died on August 7, 2023, in a road accident while clandestinely entering the Dominican Republic have not been claimed by their families, reportedly due to fear of authorities, according to an NGO.

As of Friday, the bodies were still at the morgue in Santiago, 150 km north of the capital, Santo Domingo. Only "four bodies have been retrieved" by their relatives, stated Francisco Gerdo Rosales, director of the National Forensic Institute.
