Il ne faut jamais dire : « Fontaine, je ne boirai pas de ton eau». Surtout quand cette eau s’appelle la psychologie dans le cas du roman. C’est elle, en effet, qui triomphe et qui donne vie et consistance au personnage principal de «  La modification », œuvre de Michel Butor, lauréat du prix Théophraste Renaudot 1957. Michel Butor, écrivain, appartient officiellement à la mouvance du «Nouveau roman».
