Raising awareness on sickle cell anemia in Haiti

June 19th marked the International Day of sickle cell anemia. According to members of the medical community, an epidemiological study will be conducted in Haiti in September to raise the awareness of health authorities.

In Haiti, many patients die from this genetic, incurable disease or suffer subsequent complications. Yet this disease is not widely known in the country. To meet this health challenge, the first epidemiological study of prevalence of the disease will be conducted in Haiti in September 2015. According to Laurence Boutin, Vice President of INPHA, this study is the first building block of raising awareness on sickle cell disease in Haiti.
