llThe theme for the conference was "Haitian Youth Protecting the Marine Environment” and brought together nearly a hundred participants. The organization members reported the different threats that the Haitian marine environment has been exposed to over recent years.
Erika Pierre-Louis, Reef Check National Coordinator, said that the organization was created in 1996. "Reef Check’s arrival in Haiti, following the January 2010 earthquake, reflects its willingness to study Haiti’s coral reefs," she said.

On January 16th, the International Foundation Reef Check held a a presentation on the state of the marine environment of Haiti at the headquarters of the Knowledge and Freedom Foundation (FOKAL in French).This initiative aimed to raise public awareness on the protection of Haiti’s marine environment and to discuss the role that the youth can play in the implementation of marine conservation.
