Canada promises Haiti a fire station

The fire station in Port-au-Prince will be rebuilt with the funding of 2.8 million dollars pledged by the Canadian federal government and Québec City. The announcement was made by Christian Paradis, Minister of International Development and La Francophonie, at a press conference with Régis Labeaume, Mayor of Quebec City, on Tuesday January 13th

"It is urgent to intervene,” said Minister Paradis who took part the day before at a tribute for the victims of earthquake on Janaury12, 2010. “At that time 5 years ago, the staff of the fire station was working in a building that was precarious and could collapse at any time." The work should start within a year and should be inaugurated by the end of 2016 or early 2017, according to officials who spoke at the press conference held at the City Hall of Quebec.
