llThe 2010 earthquake in Haiti destroyed more than 4,000 private schools and killed thousands of students. Despite this situation, Haiti has succeeded, with the IDB’s support, in expanding access to education at all levels. To date, 88% of Haitian children between 6 and 12 attend school compared with only 50% in 2006.
But challenges remain in terms of quality. Only one in four students passes the first round of baccalaureate exams which clearly shows the existence of gaps in the education system.
