Since its destruction during the earthquake of January 12, 2010, customs at the airport has waited more than four years for a new building. Travelers so far have been served in a temporary location. Prime Minister Laurent Lamothe, accompanied by some senior public administration executives in the presence of Mamadou Lamarane Deme, Head of Institutional Support for the World Bank, commenced the construction of the new customs building at Toussaint Louverture International Airport on Friday, November 21, 2014.
