Simple ways to make your House a Home

Laura Ingalls Wilder once said “Home is the nicest word there is.” And frankly, I couldn’t agree more. Within the past few weeks of moving from Haiti to New York City, I was in search of a home; the myriad of choices, locations, decor, budgets, and details had become a whirlwind. But something liberating happened when I stopped looking for a home, and start making one. Of course, as with every journey mine began with a few simple questions.

Being the island gal that I am, the first question I asked myself was: How can I bring the warmth of Haiti to my new home? It all began with the greenery for me. Having plants in any room makes you feel more alive. Simple green foliage brought the tropics to me. Despite popular belief, Haiti for me has always been pictured by its tropical foliage.
