France’s independence celebrated in Haiti

Several dozens of Haitians and Frenchmen living in Haiti attended the celebration of the 225th anniversary of the storming of the Bastille on July 14, 2014, at the Ambassador’s residence in Bourdon. For the occasion, Patrick Nicoloso, Ambassador of France in Haiti, Dieuseul Simon Desras, Senate President, and Lener Renaud, Minister of Defense, who is temporarily representing the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, celebrated the friendship between France and Haiti in their respective speeches.

The celebration began with the singing of both France’s and Haiti’s national anthems. Ambassador Nicoloso then addressed the guests and thanked them for their presence. He said that July 14th was the day the French revolution radically changed the regime, and created the momentum for freedom, equality and brotherhood, along with the abolition of slavery.
